Keep the termination notice and contact the county
Check the reason, effective date, requested documents and any review or hearing instructions in the notice. Scioto County Job and Family Services handles local public-assistance questions. Ohio Benefits provides access to applications and benefit information. The county or state, rather than an insurance agent, decides Medicaid eligibility and reinstatement.
Verify Part A and Part B separately
Losing Medicaid does not by itself establish that Medicare has ended. Confirm the effective and termination dates for each Medicare part. If the state had been paying Medicare premiums, ask whether that assistance changed and whether premiums are now due. A blank field on one screen should be resolved with the responsible agency before assuming someone lacks hospital or medical coverage.
Check prescription help and your current plan
Medicaid, Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help have different roles. Review any Extra Help notice separately from the Medicaid notice. If you have a D-SNP or MyCare Ohio plan, contact that plan about how the eligibility change affects enrollment, costs and any grace period. Do not assume you must immediately cancel coverage.
Review the next step before choosing new coverage
Loss of Medicaid may provide an enrollment opportunity, but the dates and available options depend on the circumstances. Gather your notices, plan information, doctors and prescriptions for a telephone conversation with Mark. There is no charge for his assistance. SBR is based in Cincinnati and serves Scioto County by telephone; it is not a county agency or a local Medicaid office. SBR does not handle Medicaid-only applications.
