What is a Medicare giveback plan?
Some Medicare Advantage plans help pay part of the Medicare Part B premium. This is called a Part B premium reduction. Availability and the amount vary by plan and area. It reduces a premium expense, it is not a grocery allowance. Use the exact plan documents for the year you are considering.
Do you have to be a veteran?
No. Veteran status is not a general Medicare Advantage enrollment requirement. To join, you need Medicare Parts A and B, residence in the plan service area and an applicable enrollment period. Mark can check whether a plan with a Part B reduction is available for your situation. If Medicaid or another program pays your Part B premium, check how that assistance affects any personal savings before choosing a plan.
Compare the savings with the full cost of coverage
A useful review starts with the services you expect to use. A larger reduction alone does not establish that a plan is the better choice.
- Verify your doctors, specialists and hospitals with the exact plan.
- Check drug coverage, your prescriptions and preferred pharmacies.
- Compare premiums, hospital copayments and other medical costs.
- Review dental procedures, dentist participation and benefit limits.
- Check the medical out-of-pocket limit, referrals and authorization rules.
Considering Giveback with hospital indemnity?
Hospital indemnity is a separate, optional insurance policy. Mark can compare its premium and scheduled benefits against the hospital costs you are concerned about. Payment depends on a covered event meeting the policy terms. Review underwriting, waiting periods, exclusions and benefit limits. A policy does not change the Medicare plan’s copayments or guarantee that every expense will be covered.
If you use VA healthcare
Bring both your VA and non-VA care needs to the review. Medicare and VA healthcare have separate coverage rules. Check prescriptions deliberately, especially when considering a plan without drug coverage. A veteran-focused plan does not itself create a year-round enrollment right.
When can you enroll?
Annual Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7 for coverage generally starting January 1. Initial and Special Enrollment Periods may provide other opportunities. The January through March Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period is for people already in Medicare Advantage. Ask Mark to verify your enrollment opportunity before making a change.

SBR is based in Cincinnati, in Anderson Township, and provides telephone assistance throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Your home county determines which plans can be considered. If you use doctors across a state line, bring those providers to the review too.
